Dutching

Dutching is a way of betting on multiple horses in a race so that if any one of them wins you are guaranteed a profit.

It is thought the strategy behind Dutching was originally conceived and employed by Arthur Flegenheimer (aka Dutch Schultz the Mafia gangster). The system has since taken his name.

We use this sometimes to lessen the risk of laying big prices horses.

In this example if we feel 'Odiham' will lose we can either Lay it or Dutch the others. On a £100 bet this is what will happen:

Lay 'Odiham' at 6.2: If one of the other horses wins then we win £100. If 'Odiham' wins then we lose £520.

OR

Dutch the 4 other horses by placing the following bets.

'Parkinson' Bet £32 to win at 6.6

'Commander Vic' Bet £29.33 to win at 7.2

'Master Wolfe' Bet £23.47 to win at 9

'Low Delta' Bet £21.12 to win at 10

Now if 'Odiham' wins we lose £105.92 but if any of the other horses win we get about £100 depending which horse wins. (I will let you sit and work it out or try one of the many online calculators Here).

This is only an example but you can see by Dutching we have the same win amount but cut our potential loss from £520 to £105.92
